遠端網路代理機器人之設計與應用

摘要


「遠端臨場(Telepresence)」技術結合遠端遙控與虛擬實境兩項技術,將遠端真實的環境傳回給近端的使用者,讓近端使用者有身處遠端環境的臨場感。遠端臨場技術原先主要應用在工程領域,本研究發展一「遠端網路代理機器人(Telepresence agent)」系統,嘗試建立一種新的人際溝通方式,將使用者實體的“存在”透過網際網路傳送至遠方之代理機器人,同時將遠方環境透過網際網路呈現給使用者,讓使用者有身歷其境的感受。 本研究歷經了三階段發展歷程,第一階段「遠端網路遙控賽車」之研發,證實透過網路傳送影音訊號與控制指令的可行性;第二階段「第一代遠端網路代理機器人」則開始應用遠端臨場技術建立新的溝通方式,並嘗試在機器人上加入人際溝通時所需之要素,如臉部表情、肢體動作等;第三階段進而改良成為「第二代遠端網路代理機器人」,除了保有人際溝通時所需之要素,並提供使用者不同的操控模式,可以使用電腦鍵盤、滑鼠、或搖桿操控,或是直接使用生理訊號,如頭部轉動、腳步移動等訊號來操控遠端網路代理機器人。 本研究所發展的遠端網路代理機器人系統產品定位在人際溝通與高齡者照顧方面,不同技術模組組合可產生不同的應用,如遠端監控、老人居家照顧等。

This thesis presents the design and application of a telepresence agent. The concept of “telepresence” describes the combinations of technologies that send the “presence” of a human operator to a distant place, and provide the operator a feeling of actual presence in the distant place. It is an interesting field that combines virtual reality implementations with human-system interface, communication technologies and robot control systems. The telepresence agent is accessed and controlled through the internet, using the user’s own biological signals. It is an extension of the distant user’s own body, which enables the user to deal with simple tasks in daily life at the remote site. Sensory feedbacks such as video, audio or multi-functional tactile are also provided to create the behavioral characteristics into the telepresence agent such as facial expression to increase its “humanity.” The final goal is that the user and people in a distance place can feel the presence each other through the telepresence agent.
