To face the complex problems and productivity of design, demands for new design methods and tools are required. This research tries to obtain systematic rules and shape grammars for generating interesting forms of optical art works by analyzing their inherited mathematical structures. Geometric properties and mathematical forms embedded in the works of famous optical artists are conducted as the basis of rules of the generative system. Experiments of generative form design are performed to illustrate the possibility of generating new images of optical art for our proposed method. The results show that the experience of design process can be extracted and explained in a much understandable way for new visual designers. Furthermore, systematic analysis of the mathematical structure of form design is important for future designer if they are going to develop more efficient and communicable design processes for interdisciplinary domains and applications.
