知識經濟的時代,知識將成為經濟成長的主要動力。專利作為智慧財產的指標之一,適合衡量企業的競爭潛力及技術與創新的績效。根據智慧財產局統計,國人的發明專利申請量由1994年的2,197件持續成長至2006年的80,901件,另外我國在美所獲專利數更長年排名第四。因此如何產生、利用、與維護知識財產權及專利來創造附加價值,已成為致勝的關鍵所在,而專利與其經營績效是否真的有正向影響是頗為值得探討的議題。 本研究運用社會網路分析(Social Network Analysis, SNA)結合專利引證資料,以我國的TFT-LCD產業為例,資料來源為USPTO美國專利資料庫,以2002~2008年為分析期間。使用UCINET工具軟體,藉此看出專利之間的關係,將計算出的社會網路指標視為企業之專利績效。 資料包絡分析法(Data Envelop Analysis, DEA)是探討生產效率的常用方法,而財務績效在過去常作為經營績效的指標。本研究利用資料包絡分析法探究研發投入對於專利績效與經營績效的關係。 研究結果發現,不論是大規模的公司還是小規模的公司,其專利績效排名與經營績效排名是極為類似的。整體來說,本研究中的TFT-LCD產業,其專利績效與企業的經營績效是呈現正相關的。
In the age of Knowledge-based Economy, knowledge will become the main motive power of economic growth. Patent, as one of the indicators of intellectual properties, is suitable for measuring the competition potential, technology capabilities, and innovation performance of corporations. Therefore, it is worthwhile to investigate whether or not patent can improve companies’ performance. This study proposes a method of patent analysis, applying social network analysis to generate some patent citation index. Patent data source is from USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) database. Study period is from 2002 to 2008. By using software UCINET we generate social network indicators as proxy of patent performance for an enterprise. Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is frequently used to measure the operational performance, which might highly correlate with the financial performance of a company. Therefore, in this thesis, DEA is applied to evaluate the operational performance and patent performance of R&D investment. Results show that no matter a company with big scale or small scale, the rank of its patent performance is similar to that of its operational performance. In other words, the TFT-LCD industry in this research, patent performance is positively related to operational performance.
