To cope with the growing challenges in the students’ complex and diverse problems, Lifeline non-profit organization has entered campuses via projects of cross-professional cooperation with a school counseling team. Adopting a qualitative approach and purpose sampling, the study interviewed eight members of the Counseling Team of Kinmen County Junior High Schools that allied with Lifeline Non-profit Organization, including the principals, counseling director, educational affairs director, counseling section chief, homeroom teachers, and school counselors. Through semi-structured interviews, data were collected to investigate the cooperation models, challenges, coping strategies, effectiveness, and influential factors. The findings of the study revealed that Lifeline Non-profit Organization and the school counseling team collaborated in classroom teaching and high-risk student services. In the process of cooperation, some difficulties occurred in the aspects of administration and cross-professional team-work. The issues in administration, such as class scheduling, arrangement of meeting time and rooms, etc., are easier to solve than those in the cross-professional team work, as it takes willingness and more cross-professional dialogue platforms to reach a consent on task assignment and role designment in the process of integration with regards to ethical and legal issues, such as curriculum development, standards of confidentiality and mandated reporting. The cooperation between Lifeline Non-profit Organization and the school counseling team conduced to promoting campus mental health, supplementing counseling capacities, discovering high-risk students expeditiously, and advancing continual service to high-risk students. The findings of the study also revealed that the professional image of the non-profit organizations and the collaborative work of the school counseling team are determining factors of the cooperation’s effectiveness. Based on the above findings, the study proposed practical recommendations for cooperation between non-profit organizations and the school counseling teams, aiming to engender utilizing the resources of the non-profit organizations in schools and to serve as a reference for cross-professional cooperation.
