Interactive Motion Cue Generation for Motion Data

摘要


現今動畫及遊戲產業的製作過程中,動作資料(Motion Capture Data) 已經被廣泛地應用。隨著動作資料的普及動作資料庫的資料量也與日俱增變得十分龐大,因此有效的動作查詢功能成為當前動作資料庫的重要研究課題之一,而查詢功能的核心技術就是關鍵影格(Key Frame)的找尋與表示法。近來已有許多關鍵影格找尋及表示法的研究,但這些關鍵影格通常所能提供的往往只有靜態的姿勢資訊,未能將連續的運動行為表現出來。所謂動作暗示(Motion Cue)是一種能將物體連續的運動行為在單張圖片(影像)中呈現出來的技巧,此技巧常見於漫畫繪製上,本論文將探討此技術以及它在關鍵影格上提升視覺化效果的應用。首先,我們整理了各種漫畫家所使用的動作暗示,接著進一步說明這些動作暗示使用的時機與方法。然後我們實作一個系統,讓使用者能夠從動作資料中選取想要表現的關鍵影格,再透過各種動作暗示參數之設定,便可在關鍵影格中產生想要的動作暗示以提升其視覺化的效果。

Recently, motion capture data have been wildly used in both animation and game industries. Accordingly, the size of motion database grows extensively and an effective motion query function becomes inevitable for the application of motion database. It is known that the key frame representation plays an essential role in designing an effective motion query and many studies have been proposed on selecting key frames from the given motion data. However, the selected key frames only provide static gesture information without motion cues. The motion cue is a technique used to represent continuous motion behavior, and it is widely used in comics. In this study, we will discuss this technique and explore how it is applied to the key frame representation to enhance its motion information. First, we study the most existing motion cue styles used by cartoonists, and investigate the relations between different kinds of motions and their corresponding motion cues. Then we implement a motion cue generation system to provide motion information of key frames. The system provides several motion cues and can generate desired motion cues automatically according to the user specified motion parameters.
