New product development is a multi-interactive process. As the competitive trend of the electronics product market increases gradually, the design cycle of new product development gets faster and faster. Therefore, the life cycle of new product development becomes much shorter and shorter. How to accelerate the design process of new product development plays an important role for the high-tech industry. Design-chain operations reference model (DCOR) was released by Supply Chain Council (SCC) in 2004. The purpose of the DCOR model can not only analyze the design process among supply chain partners, but also help them communicate with each other. Through the common professional terminology defined by the DCOR model, companies can analyze their design processes, design their required DCOR model, and construct the company’s specific design chain framework. This research adopts the case method to study Taiwan’s semiconductor printed circuit board (PCB) industry, where the PCB is a key component for the testing and package industry, which belongs to the semiconductor manufacturing downstream industry. This study uses a process-oriented and hierarchical framework to analyze and validate the design processes of the PCB for the case company. Then, this research applies the DCOR model to evaluate the design process in order to provide improvement suggestions. Through the DCOR model, this study analyzes the design chain framework of the case company, use the brainstorm method to improve the design process of new product development in order to reduce the due date of new product development and decrease the risk incurred by the poor design of a new product. Hence, the efficiency of the design process of a new PCB will be enhanced. Finally, this study summarizes managerial implications of applying the DCOR model to the case company, makes conclusions, and points out the directions of future research.
