建構在L-system上的非擬真成像式裝飾性植物圖案之生成手法

摘要


在現代社會中,各式各樣的裝飾性圖樣被應用在出版品、服裝設計、室內設計、產品包裝、多媒體媒材等許多方面。提到人類使用裝飾性圖樣的歷史,可追溯至新石器時代。這些圖樣在不同的時代、不同的區域和文化中有著不同的面貌,如新石器時代的彩陶圖樣、埃及古墓壁畫、中國傳統工藝圖案…等都有著各自的特色。無論何時何地,由於裝飾性的花朵圖案總是給人們一種優雅的印象,所以植物總是被作為圖樣設計的題材。 在這篇論文中, 我們將重點放在L-system產生的植物性裝飾圖樣。目前在CG植物的模擬方面,由於L-System能夠將植物的生長資訊儲存於文法中,所以被視為一種主流的手法。藉由字串的覆寫及重覆疊代就可以模擬植物自體相似的生長過程。因為L-System文法過於複雜,很難以人工直觀地產生文法,所以我們發展出sketch-based的文法產生系統,讓使用者能夠在虛擬的畫布畫上幾筆後,系統便能夠產生出裝飾性分枝的L-Grammar。

In modern life, various decorative patterns are applied to publishing, dress design, interior design, packaging, multimedia materials design and so on. The history of using decorative patterns can be traced back to the Neolithic era. The art style of these patterns change between various times, areas and cultures; for example, the pottery decoration in the Neolithic age, the mural paintings in Egyptian tombs, the traditional propitious patterns in Chinese art crafts, and so on. No matter when or where, plants are always one of the most important design patterns used in decorative arts. Because decorative floral patterns give people an impression of elegance and abundance, they are widely applied. In this paper, we focus on synthesizing a floral decorative pattern by using a Lindenmayer system (L-system). The L-System has always been a mainstream approach in simulating CG plants. By adopting the L-system, plant information can be stored in the L-Grammar format. By iteratively rewriting the sequence of strings using production rules, the self-similar growth process of plants can be simulated. Because the grammar structure of parametric L-system is very complicated, it is difficult and non-intuitive for us to generate L-grammar. Therefore, we developed a sketch-based grammar generation systems which allows users to arbitrarily draw lines on a virtual canvas. These lines are automatically transformed into decorative branches later by using the L-System for plant growth simulation.
