Abstract This study aimed to explore faculty inbreeding in Taiwan, taking depatments and graduate institutes of education for example. A review of related literature was conducted to understand the reasons and effects of faculty inbreeding. 142 depatments and graduate institutes of education and 1372 full-time teachers were sampled to understand the circumstances of faculty inbreeding. The results of the study show that faculty inbreeding is markedly serious in normal universities, in category of others of depatments and graduate institutes of education, in setting 51-60 years and over 61 years of depatments and graduate institutes of education, and in north depatments and graduate institutes of education.
