The Effects of 12-week Drum's Eight-Form Moving Meditation Training on the Health-related Physical Fitness and Life Stress of Female Teachers. June 2006 Student: Chih-Hsiang Lin Advisor: Chin-Lung Fang, Ph.D. Abstract Purpose:The main purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of 12-week Drum's Eight-Form Moving Meditation training on health-related physical fitness and life stress. Methods: There were 40 female junior high school teachers (average age was 29.9±5.8 years old) were recruited as subjects and randomly assigned to experimental group and control group. The experimental group (20 teachers) had received 12 weeks, 3 days each weeks, 30 minutes each day, with intensity approximately 55-65% maximal heart rate of Eight-From Moving Meditation training. The moving meditation emphasized the body-mind connection and body awareness during exercising. The control group (20 teachers) was asked to maintain the regular lifestyle during the research period. All the subjects were performed the pre-test and post-test of health-related physical fitness of 5 tests including Body Mass Index (BMI), sit and reach stretch, standing long-jump, one minute sit-ups, and 800 ran and walk. Besides, all the subjects had filled out the life stress questionnaires. All the collected data were analyzed with ANCOVA and dependent t test with SPSS version 10.0 for windows software. Results: 1.The all variables of health-related physical fitness (including 800 m run, BMI, sit and reach, standing long jump, and 1 minute sit-up) after the trainings in experimental group were significantly improved (p< 0.05). 2. The life stress of experimental group was significantly improved after training (p< 0.05). 3. The all variables of health-related physical fitness (including 800 m run, BMI, sit and reach, standing long jump, and 1 minute sit-up) of experimental group after training were significantly better than that of control group (p< 0.05). 4. The life stress of training group was significantly better than that of control group after 12 weeks of training (p< 0.05). Conclusion: The 12 weeks of Drum’s Eight-Form training has positive effects of health-related physical fitness and life stress of junior high school female teachers.
