Melamine is an organic compound with a wide array of applications, one of the most common of which is its widespread use in melamine tableware. The usage of melamine formaldehyde resin as a coating for melamine – ware is the source of the phenomenon of the migration of unreacted surface melamine molecules into media containing liquids of high temperature and acidity, with the chance of occurrence continual across the life span of a product. Excessive intake of melamine causes the formation of bladder stones and therefore the need to reduce the probability of high exposure to melamine is of academic and public concern. This research proposes the use of surface, non - pollution processing to decrease melamine migration levels, and the development of a rapid testing method to prove the effectiveness of processing and as a technique to test melamine – ware at any time after production. In order to achieve these goals, the composition of materials provided for research were examined before the most appropriate method was evaluated after an assessment of the ability of different approaches to simultaneously process melamine formaldehyde containing powder for desired results without altering the chemical state. The optimal parameters of the preferred technique were established, and groups containing MF resin without and with processing were tested in solutions previously proven to induce high levels of melamine migration before being tested using the chosen rapid examination system. The improvement in melamine migration reduction by the proposed non – pollution processing method was verified at approximately 13%.
