董事長特質與經營效率之關係：以臺灣地區銀行為例

摘要

銀行業屬於臺灣金融機構的重心，對於經濟發展的過程扮演重要的角色。本研究採用Fried et al. (1999) 提出的四階段資料包絡分析法，來評估在2016年至2018年間經環境變數調整後的35家臺灣地區銀行之經營效率。此外，在第二階段中使用Tobit迴歸模型來評估環境變數對投入差額的影響。其中，董事長特質會影響銀行的經營效率。本研究實證結果顯示： (1) 董事長之性別、持股比率、碩士學歷對投入差額呈正向關係，MBA學位對存款之差額呈負向關係。 (2) 當董事長為女性、持股比越低、具MBA學位，可提升銀行的經營效率。 (3) 排除外在環境的影響後，提升了銀行的平均整體技術效率。針對銀行董事長之特質，未來銀行業若要遴選董事長可以根據本篇論文作為參考依據。

The banking industry is not only the core of Taiwan’s financial institutions but also plays an important role in the process of economic development. This paper applies a four-stage data envelopment analysis (DEA) approach proposed by Fried et al. (1999) to measure the operational environment-adjusted efficiency of 35 banks in Taiwan during 2016-2018. In addition, the Tobit regression model is used to estimate effects of environmental variables on input slacks in the second stage. The chairman characteristics significantly affect the operating efficiency of bank. The empirical results of this study show that: (1) The male gender, shareholding ratio, and master degree are significantly increase all input slacks, while MBA degree significantly help reduce the deposits slacks. (2) The managerial efficiency significantly improves with female gender, lower shareholding ratio, and MBA degree. (3) After eliminating the impact of external environmental factors, the bank’s operating technical efficiency was improved. This paper can be used as a reference in the future for the banking industry wants to select the chairmen.
