In the study, the aim is to investigate the concept of Active Aging established by WHO (World Health Organization) in 2002. It is believed that the aging elders who participate learning activities, there is an apparent insufficiency of aging subjects living in countryside compared to those who reside in the rural areas. Furthermore, few female aging elders who reside in the countryside are capable of being educated under formal education system because of their early living background and cultural influences. Hence, disadvantage learning circumstances are encountered by the local aging females. With the transformation of social environment, it is evident that there are more demands of social supports for the aging females who lack of abilities to live independently and are in need of being taken care of. It is convinced that the concepts in Active Aging such as healthy, security and participation can facilitate the effectiveness of their independent living and better aging lives. Hence, the community in the countryside of the middle Taiwan is the focus of the research. The community is affiliated to distant zone, defined by Executive Yuan, and its learning resources are scarcer than the rural area. The researcher, therefore, chooses ___ Learning Resource Centre as the main research spot in this study. The case study method of the qualitative research is applied. We conduct in-depth interview and random classroom observation in order to research the female aging elders who live in the countryside by. In our study, six female interviewees with low literacy levels participate in the activities promoted by the Learning Centre and their participation outcomes of active aging learning cognition, effectiveness and preferences are recorded. Approved by the chief manager of the ___ Learning Centre, the researcher enter the interior learning curriculum of the ___ Learning Centre and conduct interviews and collect research data for a month. The main research results are concluded as follows. First, the female aging learners are more interested and affected by traffic security, drug use, fitness and mental growth courses. Second, the female aging learners connect the learning effectiveness with mental and social relationships, regular exercises and interpersonal relationships Third, the female aging learners prefer fitness activities, living techniques and the service learning courses which connect and make contribution to the societies. According to the above findings, three suggestions are provided as follows. First, we must respect the need of aging learners, expand the facilities in the evaluation centre and connect aging care network. We must inspire the aging learners’ ability of emotion control and hold a variety of unofficial reunions to facilitate the close connection between the Learning Centre and the aging members. We must design diverse aging health medical courses and a platform which provides a direct participation in social issues and dialogues.
