This study investigated whether participation in community health building activities influenced the health-related physical fitness of elderly people by performing a physical fitness assessment. The results of this study can serve as a reference for promoting community health activities designed for elderly people. A total of 503 elderly people from six centers for community health building activities in four administrative districts in Kaohsiung City participated in this study. These elderly people received health-related physical fitness assessments and were divided into two groups: those who did not participate in community health activities (307 elderly people) and those who participated in community health activities (196 elderly people). Descriptive statistics, an independent-samples t test, a one-way analysis of variance, and post hoc comparisons were applied to analyze samples. According to the results, the health-related physical fitness of elderly people who participated in community health activities was superior to that of elderly people who did not participate in community health activities except regarding the muscle strength of their upper and lower limbs. Therefore, participation in community health building activities helped elderly people improve their health-related physical fitness. We concluded that participation in community health building activities effectively enhances the health-related physical fitness of the participants. Thus, we suggest that elderly people should be encouraged to participate in community health building activities and their muscular strength and endurance should be reinforced to enhance their health-related physical fitness.
