臺中市太平區地名演變之調查

本研究主要討探台中市太平區的舊地名、村里名與街道名的演變與特色，透過文獻資料與地圖確認清代至民國初期地名的由來與位置，並分析地名結構來形塑太平區過去的區域特色，再探討村里名、街道名的演變來分析太平區人口空間的變動。再由各年代地名的命名特色，來分析不同年代命名的依據。從研究結果可發現：太平區常見的通名以自然類最多，例如坑、坪、湖、林、潭、崁等，而人文類的通名則有寮、廍、磘等，若從專名用詞來看，以動物、植物、地貌、位置和產業類型來形容通名最多，可見早期居民的命名方式與環境識覺有關。到了今日，里名中以吉祥佳景涵義的最多，街道名也以宣揚中華文化精神和吉言嘉字為主，明顯地與當地原先的環境特色已失去關聯，而命名的主導者也變成政府機關或是建商。

This study mainly explored the evolution and characteristic of old place names,village names and street names in Taiping District ,Taichung City. Through the literature material and the map ,the study confirmed the origin and location of place names from Qing Dynasty to earlylthe Republic of China. And the study analyzed the construction of place names to recall the region characteristics in Taiping District in the past , and investigated the changing of village name and street names to analyzed the population flow in Taiping District.The studyalso explored the place naming characteristics to analyzes the basis of the naming in different ages. The results were summarized as follows： Taiping District common general geographical name are most by natural environments, for example pit, terrace, lake, forest, deep pool cliff, and general geographical name are most by humanities environments, for example hut sugar factory, kiln and so on, if looked from the specific geographical name , by the animal, the plant, the landform, the position and the industrial type described the usual name are most, the obvious early inhabitant's naming way and the environment perception. Today the biggest amount of village names are propitious and beautiful scenery implication, and street names primarily publicizes the Chinese culture spirit and the propitious and fine words character. Obviously place names have lost the connection with the local original environment characteristic, and the naming dominance has changed to the governmental agencyor builders.
