Hospice palliative care is one of the treatment choices for terminally-ill patients with end-stage kidney disease. Although these patients had been included as candidates for noncancer hospice care in Taiwan, only 12% of deceased dialysis patients had obtained palliative care before their death. More efforts are required to facilitate hospice palliative care in this population. Near the end of life, patients and their family may have physical, psychological, and social distresses. The multidisciplinary medical team should appropriately supply access to palliative care and hospice services to optimize clinical care. And our nursing staff plays a critical role in assisting end-of-life patients to attain a high quality of care.
