Student Involvement and Involving College-The Theory and Implementation

摘要


自1980年代以來,美國高等教育開始重視學生參與,學生事務學者呼籲大學應透過課外經驗來促進學生參與,台灣最新的研究亦指出學生參與是預測學生學習成果及自我發展的最重要因素,本文之目的,即在介紹美國學生參與及參與大學的理論,並探討如何應用這些理論於台灣大學中。本文首先介紹學生參與的意義與重要性,其次,探討美國參與大學的特質與實例,最後依據美國理論,以國立台灣師範大學為例,建議如何從學校目標、校園環境及學校政策中來促進學生參與以成為參與大學。

Since 1980s, there has been growing concern in student involvement in higher education in the U. S. Scholars in the student affairs have claimed that the institution should facilitate the student involvement through out-of-class experiences. The current study in Taiwan also indicates student involvement is the most important factor to predict the outcomes of students' academic learning and personal development. The purpose of this article is to introduce the theory of student involvement and involving college in the U. S. It also addresses the implementation to Taiwanese college. The article first explains the meaning and importance of student involvement. It then discusses the characteristics of involving colleges and provides some good examples of American involving colleges. Finally, based on American model, it recommends how to facilitate student involvement through out-of-class experiences in Taiwanese colleges using the National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) as an example.
