Six patients with the initial diagnosis of sudden sensorineural hearing loss were admitted for further treatment. Deterioration of the hearing was found in the following days despite steroid treatment. The final diagnosis turned out to be mumps deafness in 3 patients, otic ototoxicity in 1, cryptococcal meningitis in 1 and neurofibromatosis in 1 patient.
