Distortion product otoacoustic emis-sions (DPOAEs) were measured in 20young adults (40 ears). All of them had normal hearing and no history of otologic disease. Six pairs of pure tone were used to establish the normal range of DPOAE-grams: The stimuli were 60-60, 65-65, 70-70, 75-75, 65-50, and 70-55 dB SPL. Base line noise was also measured around the frequencies of DPOAEs. With the primary tone level L1=L2, the amplitude of DPOAEs grossly increased with that of the stimuli from 60 to 75 dB SPL. Under the same L1, the amplitude of DPOAEs stimulated by primaries L1=L2+15 dB was not significantly different from that stimu-lated by L1=L2, but the variance of the former was larger. The base line noise level was between-2.5 and-5.5 dB SPL, and with higher level at lower frequencies.
