Infrared Coaglator for Treatment of Chronic Hypertrophic Rhinitis

摘要

Background: We wanted to realize the effectiveness and the roe of infrared coag-ulator for the treatment of chronic hyper-trophic rhinitis. Methods: 100 cases with chronic hyper-trophic rhinitis were collected with infrared coagulator performed from March 1996 to August 1996. We excluded 17 cases because of incomplete data and no regular follow-up. Among the remaining 83 cases, 21 cases had deviated nasal septum. The relief of symptoms and signs were evalu-ated and divided into four groups. Results: There were 4 cases (5%) completely improved, 39 cases (46.9%) significantly improved, 28 cases (33.7%) little improved and 12 cases (14.4%) with-out change. For the 21 cases combined with deviated nasal septum, after coagula-tion, they were retreated by septoplasty, 15 cases (71%) got significantly improved, 6 cases (20%) little improved. Among the remaining 62 cases with chronic hyper-trophic rhinitis without deviated nasal septum, 4 cases (6%) completely improved, 24 cases (38.7%) significantly improved, 22 cases (35.4%) little improved and 12 cases (19%) without change. Compared with the nasal resistance between pre-operation and post-operation by rhinomanometry, there was a statistically significant decrease post-operation. Conculsion: To sum up, we made a conclusion that infrared coagulator for treatment of chronic hpertrophic rhinitis was a simple, easy and effective method. For nasal airway abnormality, sneezing, and rhinorrhea, however, operation and medication seemed to be required.
