工程教育之通識思維

摘要

學術領域歧異殊勝，一般可分為人文藝術、社會科學及自然科學等三大類，但三大領域之間並非獨立，更非對立，彼此應為互補互利及相輔相成，也必須相互融合與會通，才能產生綜效，進而增益其所能。通識教育的引進及提倡是我國高等教育改革的重要部份，通識教育強調基礎知識與均衡學養的重要性，期以達成全人教育為目標；而全人教育以追求四大平衡為理念。完善的通識教育可以造就出涵養豐富、人格健全的人才。工程教育或科技教育均屬自然科學之範疇，唯皆不應趨於專業導向或技術導向。科技始終來自人性，科技發展更有其社會功能，中國文化大學已為工學院提供了優良的通識情境，工學院則可以1．開授跨領域科目、2．提升國際視野、及3．鼓勵選修外系學分等課程與教學規劃，達成培育受職場肯定及歡迎之學子的目標，就是發揚通識思維的具體價值了。

Academic fields differ from one another. They can be generally briefly divided into three categories: Arts and Humanities, Social Science, and Natural Science. However, each of these three categories are neither completely independent nor oppose from one another. Instead, they shall be supporting and supplementing each other. Only by fully merging and integrating these three fields together could they attain their maximum efficiency and capacity. Introducing and promoting the idea of General Education is an important reformation of our higher education. General Education emphasizes on basic general knowledge and stresses the importance of a balanced educational training. It's aimed to attain the goal of having a holistic education, an education that is in compliance with the Four Balancing Principles. A thorough general education would enable an individual to become knowledgeable and build a well-developed personality. Engineering Education or other technological educations belong to the field of Natural Science. However, they shall not be specialty-oriented or technical-oriented. Technology originated from humanity. Technological development even has its social functions. Chinese Culture University has provided its College of Engineering with a good general education by enabling the College of Engineering to (1) offer cross-field courses, (2) broaden international visions, (3) encourage students to take courses offered by other departments and make cross-department study plans. The College of Engineering has illustrated the actual value of general education by its successfully training of highly desirable students and future workers for the potential employers.
