Velopharyngeal incompetency defines as patients with essentially normal velopharyngeal structures, but they are unable to complete the velopharyngeal closure. The main reasons that cause the problem is the patient with neurological diseases, such as the myasthenia gravis, cerebrovascular accident, head injury, or cerebral palsy. The palatal lift prosthesis push the soft palate superiorly and posteriorly to assist the soft palate in effecting closure with the lateral and posterior pharyngeal walls. This article describes the method of fabricating the palatal lift prosthesis to improve the articulation and deglutition functions of the patient who had immobile of soft palate cause by cerebrovascular disease.
