As e-books are becoming more popular and their sales continue to increase dramatically, publishers and authors are more concerned with issues such as how to promote their sales, how to charge and collect the user fees and sales revenues, what should be a fair profit split ratio between the content providers and the platform operators, etc. However, the authors or contents owner who play the most important role in the e-book industry are mostly staying on the sidelines and taking a sit-and-watch attitude. So at this moment what should be the most optimal revenue and profit model for e-books is unclear. It is uncertain that a realistic revenue and profit model for e-books can be derived successfully from our experience in the old, traditional printed book revenue model. However, publishers would never know the answer without exploring this possibility. This research study was thus initiated to review and analyze revenue and profit model for e-books. Document Analysis and Data Mining technologies were used to collect data on this new e-books industry, the definition of e-books and various revenue and profit structures were studied to reach the most optimal revenue model for the eBooks. The final conclusions and recommendations were then summarized and presented at the end of this research study.
