This study used the psychophysical approach to determine the maximum acceptable weight of lift (MAWL) of infrequent lifting for 12 young Chinese female subjects, and used strength and anthropometric variables as predictors to develop prediction models. Each subject performed 12 different lifting tasks involving six lifting heights (F-K, F-S, F-R, K-S, K-P, S-R) and two lifting frequencies (one-time-maximum and 0.2 lifts/min). A total of four prediction models were developed by utilizing the stepwise regression technique. The results showed that models developed in this study could predict the MAWLs with a reasonable degree of accuracy. However, a comparison of the models revealed that the integrated model was better than the other models. The predictiors of isoinertial knuckle height strength, body weight and kuckle height were found as the best (P^2=0.941, PRESS=147).
