Six usability specialists' evaluated the degree of usability for a virtual community Web site based on provided heuristics. Usability problems such as unclear meaning of hyperlinks, lack feedback for the status, no help for special terms were found. Three groups of usability principles are concluded: basic principles for the web interface, principles for virtual community site or web sites with complex information architecture, and supplementary principles for the web interface. The usability specialist with the expertise of both usability engineering and virtual community Web sites performed the best. The results help the Web site utilizing usability engineering, and developing the usability engineering lifecycle for the Web development.
