In order to realize broadband and high-speed transmission, the Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) schemes are widely viewed as an ideal solution for first (last) mile access networks. In this paper, firstly, the development of EPON technology such as Time-Division-Multiplexing (TDM-EPON) and Wavelength-Division-Multiplexing (WDM-EPON) over Fiber-to-the-home (FTTx) is presented. Next, the Coded Wavelength-Division-Multiplexing (Coded-WDM) EPON technique over FTTx is configured. The coded-WDM coder/decoder (codec) is set up on Optical Network Unit (ONU) and Optical Line Terminal (OLT) in EPON configuration, respectively. Here, network codecs are constructed with Fiber-Bragg Grating (FBG) or Arrayed-Waveguide Grating (AWG) components.
