Chronic neutropenia and constipation are important problems without an effective treatment in pediatric patients. Herein, we report the case of an 11-month-old boy with chronic neutropenia and severe constipation who visited a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) clinic. He had been taking laxatives since he was four months of age, but the effects were not satisfactory. Problems such as defecation pain and blood-tinged hard stool were still present. He was also diagnosed with neutropenia at 7 months of age and received several doses of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor for frequent skin infections. However, the absolute neutrophil count remained low. After taking xiang sha liu jun zi tang and ma zi ren wan for 3 months, both neutropenia and constipation improved. In conclusion, TCM may be a practical and auxiliary choice for treating chronic neutropenia and severe constipation in pediatric patients.
