The culuture, music in Jiangnan (the area south of the Yangtze River) and its major musical instrument: Pipa, in the course of its beginning and development, all possess geographically unique flexibility, agility, and natural grace, matching with the exquisition, delicacy, refinement, and poetic inspiration revealed from the natural scenery and humanistic qualities in Jiangnan. This culture's concept, formation, evolution, and features, along with its connection with music in this area, will be studied in this article. The definition of Jiangnan Pipa, however, merely demonstrates the author's academic assertion.
