This research note analyzes all four of Tash Aw's fictional novels from the point of view of diaspora in order to find out the motivation for Malaysian postcolonial literature. A contesting concept, this research segregates different sub-genres under the umbrella of literary works deemed postcolonial and presents exclusive motivations or intentions that give birth to each sub-genre, fully aware that this practice can mean simplifying the complexities surrounding the concept of postcolonial. The objective of this research note is to present, through in-depth and critical analysis of Tash Aw's novels, the motivation for postcoloniality in Malaysian literature in English.
