This article is a review of four recent English-language books on Táhirih (also called Qurratu'l-'Ayn), a nineteenth-century Iranian poet, and a key figure in the Babi movement. While they add much to our understanding, as a group their coverage has not been as systematic as one might wish. Furthermore, several of these insist on interpreting Táhirih through the prism of the Baha'i faith, a religious sect which arose later and which claims her as one of its saints. Ultimately, English readers cannot yet have confidence in their understanding of Táhirih or her poetry.
