Because of the need fight in northwestern China and a lack of skillful riders in China poper, Tso Tsung-Tang established the Jin-shan Cavalry during the Kuan-hsu period in ching dynasty by recruiting among the muslims in the Shen-Kan area. This troop fought along with the Old Hsiang-Chun led by Liu Chin-tang in many battles in Kang, Long, Her, Hwang and Chinese Tankistan. Although it is difficult to determine the contribution of this troop, it did played an instrumental role in theses battles. Few studies have been done in this area. This paper studies the impact of this cavalry, evaluates its contributions and influences, and argues for its position in the history.
