The purpose of this study is to use the biblometric techniques to analyze the high productivity and high influence about the entities of Molecular Biology & Genetics literature from ESI covers ten years plus ten months data (January 1, 1993 - October 31, 2003). These entities include countries, institutions, journals, and authors. We use the amount of papers and citations to discuss the productivity and influence of Molecular Biology & Genetics literature. We also analyze the characteristics of most cited papers of Molecular Biology & Genetics. Besides, we select highly-cited authors to run the author co-citation analysis through Dialog's SciSearch and figure out the relationship between the clusters of highly-cited authors and important research topics. The result indicates that no matter what entities are, top papers are related to citations while other items of entities have different conditions. Also, the United States is the most important research country of Molecular Biology & Genetics. Most of the highly influential institutions in Molecular Biology & Genetics belong to USA. Journals, like Cell, Science, Nature Genetics, Genes & Development, Nature, are important in the field of Molecular Biology & Genetics. The cited times are higher in Molecular Biology & Genetics literature, especially the research about the regulation of cell cycle, apoptosis and genome sequence. We also find that most authors focus on the research of cell cycle regulation. About the characteristics of most cited papers, no matter the top 500 highly-cited papers or hot papers, the phenomenon of cooperation is very common. Over 90% of these papers are completed by at least two authors, and papers completed by one or more institutions are almost equal. Papers completed between countries are less, possibly because most of them are from American institutions. Top papers can be used as a reference indicator to evaluate the productivity and influence of Molecular Biology & Genetics literature to some extent. The thesis also recommends the following conclusions in : 1)database, 2)biblometric research, 3)the field of Molecular Biology & Genetics.
