WeChat Wallet is the largest electronic payment system in the world. It is responsible for the Chinese market’s spot at the top of the mobile wallet adoption list. This paper defines the mobile wallet, looks at the factors for adoption and uses that framework to analyze the success story of WeChat Wallet. It defines different stages of the development of each capability that lead to the service and it contrasts it to other such companies that did not manage to produce the same success. The paper also looks at its parent company, Tencent, analyzes its past developments that lead it to developing WeChat Wallet and looks at which factors utilized the remarkable growth of the usage of the service.
