Failed Epidural Analgesia Due to Accidental Placement Into the Lumbar Plexus Space by Loss-of-Resistance Technique

摘要

Epidural anesthesia is the most effective method by which to reduce labor pain. The administration of epidural anesthesia is usually safe; however, this method has several side effects, and complications can sometimes occur. In addition to complications, a partial effect of epidural anesthesia and inadequate administration of analgesia cause concern for anesthesiologists. Here, we report a case of lumbar plexus blockage after the administration of epidural analgesia for a painless delivery. Because the technique is similar to result in lumbar plexus block and epidural block, and these methods have the same potential complications, a differential diagnosis must be made based on all causes of partial or failed epidural and the existence of a lumbar plexus block, thus providing patients with a safe and satisfying analgesia experience.
