To use religious symbols is a very common phenomenon for terminal patients in clinical observation. By way of literature review, we propose to understand the change of patients in terms of the aspects of physical, psychosocial, spiritual and temporal meaning. In addition, we present a model of “holistic palliative care.” When the dying patients search spirituality, the religious symbols are served e as the media through which they feel connected with those qualities like “hopefulness, “ “relationship, ” “revelation, ” and “selfsatisfcation.” As a result, we suggest that while caring the dying patients, the clinical staff should establish an environment inclusive of qualities such as respective, listening, receptive, and sharing. In such a place, they can freely use religious symbols, express their will, and feel supported.
