This essay intends to contribute to the work of the first step in theory-building of leisure space. It attempts to construct an analytical theses for leisure space as a series of theoretical hypotheses for research operation of empirical studies. At first, it reviews leisure relations through the historical process of formation of recreation, leisure and tourism, and reviews leisure discourse which exists as a part of the power structure of the society. After that, the author points out the limits of functionalism through against the sociology of leisure of the main stream which considers the leisure relations as ”free time”, consider the leisure typology and leisure experience on the presupposition of the conceptual dichotomy between the individual and society. Then, facing a state of multi-paradigmatic rivalry of sociology of leisure, leisure practice has to treat the new challenges of the economic restructuring after the 70s. Finally, the whole analytical process is organized as a provisional theoretical framework for the following empirical research.
