This paper attempts to clarify the dispute between ”modern” and ”postmodern” by way of a genetic analysis of the dispute between Habermas and Lyotard. In this analysis, I firstly expound the different views of both and accordingly their different claims of ”modern” and ”postmodern”. Then, I cross-examine their positions through Rorty's reconciliation and criticism to bring oat the meaning of this dispute.
