This article is an attempt at examining popular books of parenting education from feminist perspectives. The researchers explore 11 selected popular books to argue that these discourses lack gender equity consciousness. By examining the selected popular books, the authors point out the discourses on parenting education are basically psychologically oriented and rooted in embedded patriarchal ideology. The authors also discursively analyze the content of parenting education and find that these popular books contain a persistent concern about the legitimacy of an ideal patriarchal nuclear family type, i.e. the family pattern with a male breadwinner and a female homemaker. Besides, the discourses have been produced by male experts while the readers have been generally set as women. Finally, at the end of this article, the researchers provide two suggestions for developing the progressive gender egalitarian parenting education discourses.
