Transcatheter Arterial Embolization for a Ruptured Angiomyolipoma Developing Hypovolemic Shock: A Case Report

Flank pain is a very common chief complaint in emergency departments (EDs). There are several life-threatening differential diagnoses which should be considered. We report herein a case of a 51-year-old woman who was went to our ED due to left flank pain. Hypovolemic shock developed while we were performing a series of examinations. Ultrasound (US) and computer tomography(CT)showed a ruptured angiomolipoma of the left kidney. We present an alternative approach to surgical intervention, namely transcatheter arterial emboliation (TAE). The outcome of this patient after TAE was satisfactory, and renal function was preserved as well.
