Difficulty of writing without imagination: Enquiry into the roots and cultivation of the imaginative capacity among prose writers

摘要


本研究以半結構化的深度訪談方法,研究6位散文作家想像力的來源與養成之道。研究結果顯示,創始想像力包括「相異時代與成長環境的生活經驗累積」等6項根源,以及「持續閱讀以觀摩他人書寫並汲取創作養分」等5種培養方式;構思想像力有「反映個人終極關懷的創作理念」等3類根源,和「目標導向以有效完成創作」等5種培養方式;轉造想像力則有「敏感、好奇、善觀察、愛動腦的人格特質」等4種根源,以及「不刻意設限的生活經驗累積」等5種培養方式。

This study explored the roots and cultivation of the imaginative capacity, focusing primarily on 6 prose writers. Following prior research in categorizing the imaginative capacity in three types-the initiating, conceptual, and transforming imagination-we conducted in-depth interviews with six renowned prose writers in Taiwan. The results unraveled six roots and five cultivation methods as sources of initiating imagination, three roots and five cultivation methods for conceptual imagination, and four roots and five cultivation methods for transforming imagination. The findings of the present study could inspire those engaged in or working toward a career in literacy creation, enrich literacy and communication education by realizing professional writers' imaginative capacities, and deepen the theoretical foundations and practices of literacy creation.
