This study explores correlations between the perceptions of caring behaviors from clinical nursing instructors and the learning satisfaction of junior college nursing students. This study adopted a cross-sectional correlation design with two hundred ninety-six participants assigned to take clinical practicing course at the medical ward, surgical ward, nursing home or psychiatric ward of a medical center in the second semester of academic year 2005. The participants were drawn from (1) the day section of a 2-year senior college program, (2) the evening section of the 2-year senior college program which included a continuing education program, and (3) the 5-year junior college section of the Medical Nursing Management College in northern Taiwan. Research instruments were structured questionnaires including a ”Perception of Caring Behavior Scale” and ”Learning Satisfaction Scale.” The study revealed the following: (1) junior college nursing students have a higher-than-average positive perception of concern in their clinical nursing instructors, (2) the perceived of concern clinical nursing teachers differed from semester to semester and also differed between clinical practice sections, (3) the older the age and the longer the experience of the junior college nursing students are significantly negative related to the perceived concern in clinical nursing instructors, (4) the overall learning satisfaction of junior college nursing students varied between ”highly satisfactory” and ”satisfactory”, indicating an above average overall satisfaction, and students who are interested more in the nursing work have greater learning satisfaction. These findings can interpret 55.5% of the total amount of variances in the learning satisfaction in the junior college nursing students included in the study. Finally, recommendations for clinical nursing education, nursing studies and subsequent studies are proposed for reference.
