According to Eccles' expectancy-value theory, individual's expectancy of success and subjective task value are valid predictors of achievement behaviors. The purpose of this study was to explore whether intention level, have different swimming expectancy and value belief. Male and female high school students (N=205) completed measures assessing swimming expectancy and value belief (including ability expectancy need effort, psychological cost of failure, significant others' expectations cost and task value.), and swimming intention questionnaires. The scale had acceptable to excellent internal consistency (Cronbach's α between .67 and .95). Results indicated that five valid was significantly, (p<.05), partially support the hypothesis and Eccles's expectancy-value theory is useful concept to achievement behavior study in the swimming field. The authors end the study suggest new directions for future research.
