Second Life, a virtual reality space, has gained great attention among foreign language teachers and has been viewed as a potential education tool. Due to the limited teaching opportunities for pre-service teachers in Taiwan and the potential power of Internet, this study adopted Second Life as an authentic Mandarin pre-service teacher teaching environment and offered a systematic training model to educate those pre-service teachers. The purposes were to create an online teaching environment to allow pre-service teachers gain practical knowledge in one to one teaching and further investigate the challenges that the pre-service teachers encountered and the professional knowledge they obtained. Conclusion and suggestions were also addressed for teacher training programs.
