Extraction is an important unit of the unit operation practice course at the chemical engineering departments. The extractor of countercurrent multi-stage, was usually adopted by most schools. In the early, this extraction was worked to use toluene as an extract, acetic acid as a solute and water as a diluent. But it is well known that toluene is a strong toxic substance and acetic acid has strong corrosion and unpleasant odor. This study was found that the practice of extraction to use of water as an extract, ethanol as a solute, and n-hexane as a diluent and to measure the extracted ratio by using the refractive index, was suitable for one limit of the unit operation practice course, to enhance the learning interests of students, without chemical pollutants.
