This thesis aims to explore Mengzi’ analysis of human existence and the Dao of human existence in the Mengzi. The examples of Mengzi’ discussions are selected from Mengzi 3B9. Thus, I based my analysis on this chapter, conducting a comprehensive analysis. To begin with, it could be found that Mengzi divided human existence problem into three patterns: people to nature, person to person, and oneself. Through them, Mengzi explored four issues: namely, the Dao of harmonious coexistence between people and nature, the Dao between ruler and the ruled, the Dao of human relationships, and the Dao of conscience innate in human nature. These four issues have interconnected in the sequence of their inductive reasoning. Accordingly, Mencius explored them through four stages of alternating periods between harmony and chaos. In the final analysis, a reasoning pattern could be observed in Mengzi’ induction of corresponding solutions. In conclusion, the thesis clarifies Mengzi’ contention that the conscience innate in human nature would be the ultimate Dao of human existence.
