The purpose of this study is to discuss the relationship between the use of smartphone applications (“apps”) and the users’ lifestyles, employing factor analysis and cluster analysis to categorize lifestyle groups of smartphone apps users. The conclusions of this study may help Taiwan application service providers better understand the current situation of smartphone apps use. The study reviews historical literature regarding mobile commerce, mobile value-added services and the characteristics of the smartphone applications. Factor analysis and cluster analysis were conducted on the 514 effective Web questionnaires collected, so as to determine the users’ lifestyles. Finally, the result demonstrated 7 lifestyle factors and 4 lifestyle groups among all subjects. The main findings of the study are as follows: 1.Smartphone applications samples are mainly students, people at young age, of high level of education, with disposable income of less than 20,000 and with a certain degree of dependence on apps services. 2.Different combinations of lifestyle factors will generate unique lifestyles and contribute to various types of apps used, the duration of apps usage and other usage variables 3.Nearly half of the subjects are classified as short-term users who use mainly communication and entertainment applications while two tenths of the subjects belong to long-term users who utilize communication, entertainment and information applications. 4.Most significantly, the major findings indicate that there is a certain relationship among the users’ lifestyles, their application use and their backgrounds.
