The purpose of this study was to understand the effects of weight control intervention, i.e., exercise combined with dietary control, on health-related physical fitness and obese index of overweight female adolescents aged 15-18 years. Thirty-seven subjects with BMI23 selected in the experiment attended an 8-week weight control program that included diet cognition and physical fitness curriculums. Data were collected both at pretest and posttest. The physical fitness was measured by items such as cardio respiratory fitness, strength endurance, flexibility, body composition. Obese index was composed of body mass index, body fat ratio, skin-fold thickness, waist-hip circumference ratio, and blood pressure. The data were analyzed by using software SPSS for Windows 1.0 to set up files and to do statistical analysis. The statistical methods included mean, standard deviation and paired-samples t-test. The findings of this study are as follows: (1) Subjects' obese index such as BMI, body fat ratio, shin-fold thickness, waist-hip circumference ratio and blood pressure were significantly improved by the weight control intervention. (2) Subjects' physical fitness such as cardio respiratory, strength endurance and flexibility were significantly improved by the weight control intervention. The results suggested that the related school institutions and medical persons can make references when they implement the weight-control intervention program. In the meantime, this study also is expected to help teenage overweight girls to control weight, to have the best healthy fitness and to improve their quality of life.
