According to Accumulation of Treatment regulation, prison inmates are subject to be eligible for the application for early release (parole) when they stand onto the first or second class of progressive treatment system after they pass half of their term. Under the influence of polarized criminal justice policy in the past few years, many first class inmates were declined in the parole application. In order to help release those inmates' negative emotion and help them cultivate better ability for future social lives and adaptation, the present research team designed a guidance group for 12 prison inmates at a southern prison. The topics, which made up of 8 weeks of correctional group, included in the program were personal emotion management, family support system, and career planning. The group leaders provided a safe and trustable environment for those inmates to share with others and freely talk about their concerns which were related to their personal feelings, their families and future lives. The present study found that this group guidance program indeed could provide positive group dynamics for participants and could be helpful for the inmates to share their feelings, and to think more and deeper about their future family/social lives. Most of the participants showed positive attitude toward the group program and thought that they benefited from the program. In this article, the research team discussed pros and cons of the program and concluded that this type of group program should be worthy of reproducing in other similar institutions.
