本研究探討運用動態文字呈現方式提昇小螢幕中文閱讀理解力之可行性。實驗設計分為兩個實驗進行,實驗一分別調查三種小螢幕〔筆記型電腦、個人數位助理(PDA)、與行動電話〕在12pt字級、細明體、和230 words per minute (wpm)配速下,三種動態文字呈現〔捲軸式(scrolling)、前導式(leading)、和快速連續視覺呈現(rapid serial visual presentation, RSVP)〕對受測者閱讀理解力的影響,並且在筆記型電腦介面中比較動態文字呈現與靜態文字呈現間的差異性。研究結果顯示RSVP為具可行性的動態文字呈現方式,以替代靜態文字呈現。其次,受測者的閱讀理解力並非隨文字呈現螢幕增大而提昇。實驗二以PDA為例,配合RSVP,進一步考慮相關因素(factor),包括兩種中文字型(細明體和標楷體)、三種配速(171、260、和350wpm)、兩種字級(12和28pt)和三種不同的RSVP(以字為單位、以句為單位、和以詞為單位)。研究結果顯示配速和呈現方式具顯著差異地影響閱讀理解力,並且具有顯著差異的交互作用。以字為單位或以句為單位的RSVP配合260wpm之配速,可促進小螢幕中文閱讀理解力,為可以取代靜態文字呈現方式的較佳因素組合。
