The Investigation of Sports Injuries in College Students-Case Study of X College in Taichung

The aim of this study is to investigate the current status of sports injuries in college students, with regards to their sport behaviors, the type of injury, and assess their sport injury treatment. ”The Investigation of Sports Injuries in College Students” was used in this study. The subjects were randomly selected from college students in central Taiwan. Collected 768 questionnaires, but only 750 were valid. The valid response rate was 98%. The results of study are as followed: 1. The behaviors of college students: The students were interested in exercise (87%) was the main motivation. The major sport event attendance of this college was badminton, followed by the table tennis. The most of students exercised or participated in sports 2-7days per week, others exercised everyday. The most college students had done warn-up before exercise (52%). 2. The situations of sports injuries: The 76% of college students experienced cramp when they were doing exercise. The 97% of the athletes had a history of sport injuries. The most of the college students' causes of injuries were inadequate warm-up (61%). And the most of sports injuries occurred during practice and train hours (51%). Outdoor activities were the most places when sports injuries occurred (61%). The major occurrences of sport injury were at the legs (71%), The more common type of sport injuries was joint sprain (68%). The major injury of this college was happening during playing badminton (30%), followed by playing basketball. 3. The treatments of the sports injuries: The findings implied that 69% college students were self-treatment when sports injuries occurred. The major type of medical-care after injury was Chinese medical treatment (69%). The 75% of college students had accepted safety education. The most of college students regard the curriculum of sports injury as a necessary class (88%). Finally, according to our study, we note some pedagogical implications. We suggest that our findings being not only educational references for the college and students, but also an overview of the development for sports injury.
