In this thesis, an on-axis refractive beam deflector and an off-axis astigmatic reflector for use in a miniaturized optical pickup head system is designed. The on-axis refractive beam deflector acts as a polarized beam splitter and the off-axis astigmatic reflector generates astigmatic signal for focus detection. These two components simplify the design and fabrication procedures. The on-axis refractive beam deflector is a polarization-selective element. It deflects light return from disc as a beam splitter. The off-axis astigmatic reflector is an astigmatic sensor which generates servo signals which can also transferred into a diffractive optical element. The on-axis refractive deflector will be fabricated by diamond machine tools. The off-axis astigmatic reflector will be simulated by MATLAB and be fabricated by the lithographic process.
